On Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) kicked off its inaugural CAF B-Licence Coaching Course at the NFF-FIFA Technical Centre within the MKO Abiola National Stadium.
NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON) officiated the launch, welcoming the first group of 25 participants, which includes coaches from Nigeria and neighboring countries.
Gusau hailed the event as a landmark achievement for Nigerian football. “Today is a moment of great joy for me,” he said, underscoring the initiative’s long-awaited rollout.
The NFF president praised the Technical Department, headed by Coach Augustine Eguavoen, for its meticulous planning. He urged participants to seize the opportunity, saying, “Stay focused and free from distractions. This is your chance to grow as coaches. By year’s end, we aim to introduce a CAF A-Licence program, and I’m confident our Technical Department will make it happen.”
NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi emphasized the course’s broader impact, noting its potential to transform coaching quality in Nigerian leagues. “Without top-tier coaches, our teams’ performance suffers,” he said. “This program equips our coaches with modern techniques and certification, a must for competing in international club tournaments.”
The four-month course, structured in modules, forms a key part of the NFF’s strategy to bolster coaching expertise nationwide. The launch event drew prominent figures, including NFF 2nd Vice President and NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, Technical Committee Chairman Alhaji Sharif Rabiu Inuwa, Technical Director Augustine Eguavoen, and other senior officials, alongside former Nigerian internationals Abdulrafiu Yusuf and Nasiru Jibril.
