In a significant diplomatic engagement, Vice President Kashim Shettima welcomed Crown Princess Victoria Désirée of Sweden to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, April 7, 2025. The Crown Princess arrived at 2:13 pm and was received by Senator Ibrahim Hadejia, Deputy Chief of Staff to the President.
The Swedish Crown Princess Victoria is on an official visit to Nigeria from April 7 to April 9, 2025. The visit aims to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Sweden and Nigeria, the Swedish Embassy says.
During her stay, she is meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar. She will also meet the Governor of Lagos State.
A significant highlight of her visit is the commissioning of the Swedish Trade Office in Lagos. This is expected to bolster bilateral trade relations.
The Swedish Crown Princess had previously hosted Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. This event occurred during his official visit to Sweden in October of the previous year. It marked a significant moment in the diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Sweden.
Monday’s meeting marks one of the rare high-profile visits by European royalty to Nigeria. Notably, in May 2024, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made a three-day visit to Nigeria at the invitation of the Chief of Defense Staff. Their trip focused on promoting the Invictus Games, an initiative Nigeria joined in 2022.
More details on her visit later..
