Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his enthusiasm for sports development in the state by flagging off the BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship. The event, currently underway at the Alake Sports Centre in Ijeja, Abeokuta, will run until today.

During his visit, Governor Abiodun praised the athletes for their dedication and perseverance, emphasizing the state’s commitment to supporting their passion.

“I commend all participants for your dedication. You are already winners. Your resilience to stay true to your passion is inspiring, and as a sports-loving state, we will continue to support you in achieving your dreams,” the governor said.

The governor’s visit has been welcomed by the President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, who described it as a landmark moment for the federation and a significant boost for the athletes.

“This visit is a significant milestone for us, and it will further promote the growth of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria. We are grateful for the Governor’s ongoing support for both wheelchair basketball and Nigerian sports,” Johnson stated.

Preparations for the National Sports Festival
The BetKing 3×3 National Wheelchair Basketball Championship serves as a test run for the venue ahead of the National Sports Festival, set to hold from May 16 to 30, 2025, in selected venues in Ogun State. Governor Abiodun also inspected the facilities that will host the upcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) in May, commending the NSF Local Organising Committee (LOC) for their efforts in ensuring the venue meets the high standards expected for the event.
