Babagana Zulum, the governor of Borno State, has cautioned Baga’s farming and fishing villages against working with Boko Haram militants.
According to the governor, this poses a serious risk to regional peace and stability.
In his speech to the populace on Wednesday at the district head’s palace in Baga town, Zulum issued the warning.
“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military,” he said.
The governor emphasized how crucial it is to abide by the rules established by the Borno administration and the Nigerian military.
He emphasized that ““while we support agricultural activities, it is critical that our people comply with the guidelines to ensure their safety and the stability of the state.”
Following an Islamic State of the West African Province attack in Dumba, the state’s Kukawa Local Government Area, the governor paid a visit.
Forty farmers were killed in the raid.
Cooperation with militants of any kind was denounced by Zulum as “unacceptable and detrimental to ongoing efforts to restore stability in the state.”The governor visited a 2,000-hectare solar-powered surface irrigation system at Mile 3 in Baga in an effort to increase agricultural productivity.
He praised the effort as a significant step toward increasing cultivation and attaining food security in Borno and elsewhere.
He claims that the project is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s goals of lowering production costs and guaranteeing food sufficiency.
Following the wheat harvest, Zulum revealed plans to use the irrigated field for cassava farming, utilizing the solar-powered system to save operating costs.
“This initiative will transform agricultural production in Borno State and strengthen our comparative advantage in wheat and cassava farming,” he stated.
The governor promised to speed up infrastructure, healthcare, and education restoration after being warmly welcomed in Kukawa town.
Additionally, he praised the bravery of the 101 Special Forces Battalion’s soldiers and promised them the state government will continue to support them.
Top government officials and members of the National Assembly accompanied Zulum.
