Table Tennis: Wassim Essid Secures Spot at U19 Mixed Doubles Final

African rising star Wassim Essid has made a great impact at the ongoing WTT Youth Contender Tunis at the Palais des Sports d’El Menzah, securing a spot in the U19 Mixed Doubles final.

Partnering with Germany’s Mia Griesel, the reigning African Youth Champion has been dominant, with the duo cruising through their last three matches without dropping a set.

Having recorded flawless 3-0 victories in each of their previous matches, Essid and Griesel will face Chinese Taipei’s Peng Yu-Han and France’s Nathan Pilard in what promises to be an exciting final on Wednesday.

While Essid’s mixed doubles performance has been stellar, his singles campaign met an early end.

The young Tunisian faced a tough 3-0 defeat in the round of 16 against Iran’s Benyamin Faraji in the U17 Boys singles.Other young African players, including Youssef Aidli, Bilel Zouitene, Amir Essid, Aylan Goudjil, Ella Saidi Jade Morice, and Tania Morice, also competed in Tunis but were unable to advance past the round of 16 in their respective categories.

The WTT Youth Contender is the first of four exciting competitions scheduled for this month and February in Tunis.
