There has been extensive interruption on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Motorway due to a fuel tanker explosion at the Old Toll Gate in Mojoda Community, Epe Local Government Area, Lagos State.
According to emergency reports, the tanker driver and at least two other people barely escaped before the vehicle caught fire at approximately 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
According to reports, the tanker was leaving Lagos carrying fuel when it exploded.
Due to the incident, drivers were compelled to find alternate routes, which resulted in heavy gridlock on the expressway.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service’s Director, Margaret Adeseye, verified the explosion and informed the public that immediate action was being taken to contain the fire and stop more damage.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently battling a fuel tanker inferno on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway, near the Old Toll Gate, Mojoda, Epe, Lagos State,” Adeseye said.
“There are no vulnerable individuals within the immediate scene except for the tanker occupant, as efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under control.”
While they continue to keep an eye on the situation, authorities advise drivers to use caution and follow safety protocols.
