Benedict Akwuegbu, a former Nigeria striker, has urged the Super Eagles coaching crew to recall Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho to the team. The duo has been frozen out of the Eagles set-up, but Akwuegbu believes they still have a lot to offer.

“Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho should be recalled to the Super Eagles. They are experienced and in good form at the moment for their respective clubs,” Akwuegbu told (link unavailable)

Musa, who rejoined his boyhood club, Kano Pillars, from Turkish club, Sivasspor, has been in impressive form for the Sai Masu Gida side. Iheanacho, on the other hand, has been turning out well for EFL Championship side Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla.

“If Musa can perform so well for Kano Pillars despite the physical challenges of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), I believe he is still relevant to the Super Eagles’ quest for the 2026 World Cup ticket,” Akwuegbu stated.

“He has skill, and he is scoring for his team. That is what the Super Eagles need right now—players with experience—and this is where Musa and Iheanacho come in.”

Akwuegbu also expressed his confidence that Nigeria will qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. “I am confident that the Super Eagles will qualify for the World Cup.

There are still four games to play. We can win three of them, and with the likes of Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho adding quality to the team, I strongly believe the Super Eagles will be at the World Cup in 2026,” he said.

Akwuegbu’s call for Musa and Iheanacho’s recall has sparked a debate among Nigerian football fans. While some agree that the duo’s experience and form could be beneficial to the team, others believe that it’s time for younger players to take over.

The Super Eagles are currently preparing for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers, and the team’s coach, Eric Chelle, will have to decide whether to recall Musa and Iheanacho or stick with his current squad. With Nigeria’s World Cup qualification hopes hanging in the balance, the decision will be a crucial one.

Musa and Iheanacho have both had successful careers with the Super Eagles, with Musa being the team’s all-time leading scorer. Their experience and leadership could be invaluable to the team as they navigate the challenging World Cup qualifiers. However, it remains to be seen whether they will be given the opportunity to contribute to the team’s success once again.
