We urge that those arrested be publicly paraded to bring relief to the victims’ families and to ensure accountability.

Abba Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, has requested that the Uromi suspects accused of killing the 16 hunters be paraded in public and that compensation be provided to the families of those who were killed.

The demand was made by the governor on the 31st of March, while his counterpart from Edo, Governor Monday Okpebholo, was in Kano to express his condolences.

The visit took place just under 48 hours after the bodies of the hunters, who had been killed by mob were laid to rest in Uromi, which is located in Edo State at previous Saturday.

Members of the Hausa community gathered at the village cemetery to pay their respects to the victims, who had been burned to death after being accused of being kidnappers.

During his speech at the Kano Government House, where he was hosting Okpebholo, Yusuf termed the attack as distressing.

He said, “This cowardly act contradicts the fundamental principles of our society, which are deeply rooted in both Islamic and Christian teachings.

“So far, 14 suspects have been arrested in connection with the killings. As Kano remains dear to my heart, we will continue to uphold the value of being our brother’s keeper.

“We have implemented strong security measures to prevent any reprisal attacks. We also urge that those arrested be publicly paraded to bring relief to the victims’ families and to ensure accountability.

“I call on Gov. Okpebholo to ensure that the families of the victims receive fair compensation for their loss. I also commend President Tinubu for his prompt response and commitment to justice by directing security agencies to pursue the perpetrators.”
