Coach Eric Sekou Chelle has revealed his plans to use the June international window to scout for fresh stars to strengthen the Super Eagles. Chelle, who got off to a flying start with a 2-0 win away to Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, is eager to freshen up his squad.
Chelle has a long list of eligible Nigerian players abroad that he wants to give a look-in. Some of the players on his radar include Lesley Ugochukwu, George Ilenikhena, and Carney Chukwuemeka.
“He shows me a long list of over 30 such players, from Lesley Ugochukwu to George Ilenikhena and Carney Chukwuemeka,” Audu said.
Chelle emphasized his commitment to working with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make this possible. “There are lots of players who can still play for Nigeria. I will work with the NFF to make this possible,” he noted.
The former Malian coach expressed his excitement about the June international break, which will give him the chance to have the Super Eagles for an extended period. This will allow him to take a closer look at some players who were not part of his first two matches in March’s World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
“I am here to work,” Chelle maintained. His immediate priority is to prepare a team that will be ready to beat Rwanda in September and then face South Africa in a crucial match in Johannesburg.
“It’s an obligation we win in South Africa, but the most important match for us right now is Rwanda in Uyo,” he noted.
With the June international window approaching, Chelle is poised to inject fresh talent into the Super Eagles, strengthening their chances of success in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
