Mr. Gibson Reuben is the foreign national who drowned at the Aleto River in the Eleme local government area of the state on Monday night, according to the Rivers State Police Command.
Reuben, a Dutchman who was the managing director and chief executive officer of the Rivers State Cassava Project Limited, drowned while attempting to flee suspected kidnappers when his car fell off the Aleto bridge.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Grace Iringe-Koko, the State’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), disclosed that Olugbenga Adepoju, the State’s Commissioner of Police, had already visited the accident site.
Part of the statement read, “CP Olugbenga Adepoju was accompanied by the Area Commander Eleme, DPOs within the Eleme Area Command and tactical teams of the command already at the scenes.”
The CP on the scene vehemently denounced the attack as “very barbaric” and ordered a thorough investigation, which included the immediate arrest of those responsible for the heinous conduct. They also promised to bring the culprits to justice.
“This incident is a disturbing situation and the Police Commissioner’s swift response is a welcome step towards addressing these concerns. He is calling on the good people of Rivers State to provide credible information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing perpetrators of this act,” the PPRO added.
