Rangers manager Barry Ferguson has heaped praise on Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers after his stoppage-time winner secured a thrilling 4-3 victory over Dundee FC at Dens Park on Saturday. Dessers’ dramatic strike in the 93rd minute capped an incredible comeback by the Scottish giants, who trailed 2-1 at halftime.
Ferguson lauded Dessers’ work ethic and determination to improve his skills, saying, “Cyriel Dessers is a joy to work with”.
The Nigerian international’s winner was his 23rd goal in all competitions this season, and it marked his 100th appearance for Rangers.
Dessers himself described the winning moment, saying, “I know Tav and his qualities, and he can give these balls, and I think it got carried a little bit by the wind.
The defender could only get a touch, and I had good control on my chest and then slipped it past the keeper. It was an unbelievable moment, scoring an injury-time winner”.
The match was a pulsating Scottish Premiership clash, with Rangers mounting a stunning comeback in the second half. Goals from James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence, and Dessers ensured all three points for the visitors, who had trailed 2-1 at halftime.
Dundee boss Tony Docherty was left disappointed, saying, “The overriding emotion is huge disappointment. I can’t focus on anything but the fact we’ve lost a game we should never lose”.
Despite the loss, Docherty’s side remains second bottom, five points ahead of St Johnstone.
Dessers’ winner has sparked praise from fans and pundits alike, with many hailing his determination and skill. The Nigerian international’s performance has also highlighted his importance to Rangers, who will be looking to build on this thrilling comeback victory.
