The constituents issued14-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Nigerian Senate, and anti-graft agencies to take action on their petition.

Neda Imasuen, the senator who represents the Edo South senatorial district, came under fire from his constituents, who started the recall process against him.

As a result of allegations of corruption, abuse of power, inability to fulfill his responsibilities, and betrayal of public trust, the constituents of the Edo South Senatorial District and the Human Rights Community stated on Friday, March 28, that they have lost faith in Imasuen.

They are also requesting that Imasuen be prosecuted for the concerns that led to his claimed disbarment by the New York State Supreme Court in 2010. The constituents and their allies in the human rights sector are seeking this as well.

The Constituents said, “Given the international nature of these allegations, INTERPOL’s cooperation is necessary to ensure a thorough, Independent and global investigation.

At a news briefing in Benin City, Edo State, delegates from five of the seven senatorial district local governments made the announcement, saying that their citizens demand leadership that is trustworthy, responsible, and open with them.

Ogbu David of Uhunwode, Caesar Garrick of Ikpoba-Okha, Kola Edokpayi of Oredo, Okorie Kingsley of Oria North East, and Hanson Orako of Egor are the members of the local government who are represented. Aghatise Raphael is also a member.

The group alleged that Imasuen, who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, has no constituency projects in his Senatorial District and has distanced himself from the people.

In response, Senator Neda Imasuen denied the charges and said that his opponents had just been invited to Kogi State.

Imasuen said, “They are doing a hatchet job because they are being paid from Kogi. I don’t see why someone is being paid to throw stones in his father’s house.”
