Bumpa co-founder’s Death: Police Confirms Arraigning Suspect

In connection with the death of Adetunji Opayele, also known as Teejay, who was a co-founder of Bumpa, Abiola Odutayo has been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command.

As soon as Odutayo was released from the hospital, the police stated that he was brought before the court on March 12, 2025, at Court 1, Tinubu.

As a result of her actions on a public highway, which resulted in the death of Opayele, she is being charged with negligence and dangerous driving.

In a statement that was published on X, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, verified the development.

Benjamin said, “We #LagosPoliceNG acknowledge public concerns regarding the tragic accident that claimed the life of Adetunji Opayele (Teejay) on March 4, 2025. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and all who have been affected by this loss.

“We can confirm that following a thorough investigation, Abiola Odutayo ‘f’ was arraigned in Court 1, Tinubu on March 12, 2025, after she was discharged from hospital, for driving on a ‘public highway in a reckless and careless manner without due care and attention to other road users and caus[ing] the death of one Tunji Opayele ‘m’ aged 32 and thereby committed an offence…’

“The court granted her bail and adjourned the case till April 16, 2025. The Lagos State Police Command remains committed to transparency, fairness, and justice.

IREPORT247NEW reported that apprehension has been voiced by a number of Nigerians in response to the untimely passing of Adetunji Opayele, commonly known as Teejay, who was a co-founder of the technology startup company Bumpa.

On March 4, 2025, the 31-year-old man was riding his power bike along Ozumba Mbadiwe in Victoria Island, Lagos, when he was involved in an accident. He was on his way from the gym at the time.

During the process of merging onto the expressway, the driver, Biola Adams-Odutayo, allegedly failed to cede the right of way, he hit and knocked Teejay out of the road and left him unconscious.
