If the man was truly there to steal, then it’s a shameful way to die. His family and friends will also feel very ashamed of having had anything to do with him throughout his existence.

In an attempt to steal a cable from an electricity transformer, a man of middle age who was only known by his name, Emeka Chikere, tragically lost his life, he was electrocuted.

The location of the incident was determined to be Obohia Ibere, which is located in the Ikwuano Local Government area of Abia State, according to our correspondent.

As a result of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) restoring supply to the transformer, the deceased individual was electrocuted and ultimately died as a result of his actions.

Sources in the region disclosed that the deceased individual had intended to vandalize the transformer on Thursday night, but his luck ran out.

Kelvin Ikechukwu Okorie, a resident of the village, reported that the region has been experiencing intermittent power outages for an extended period of time.

His lifeless body was discovered on the transformer on Friday, which left the locals in a state of shock.

Relatives of the deceased were reportedly making preparations to take his remains to the morgue, according to reports.

Within the Aba ring-fenced area in same state, there has been a significant amount of power theft, which has been condemned by the management of the Aba Power Limited Electric (APLE) company.

While condemning the actions of vandals, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, who serves as the Special Adviser to Governor Otti on Media, praised the newly enacted Abia State Electricity Bill that was just recently signed into law by the governor of the state.

Ekeoma said, “If the man was truly there to steal, then it’s a shameful way to die. His family and friends will also feel very ashamed of having had anything to do with him throughout his existence.

“I recall the case of a thief who was doing the same thing around Ogbor Hill Waterside axis in Aba a few years ago.

“He subjected the residents of the area to untold suffering as they stayed in darkness for a long time as a result of consistent theft of their cables and important components of their electricity transformer.

“One day he ran out of luck and he was caught and sent to his “forefathers”.

“It’s a despicable economic sabotage to vandalise or steal electricity infrastructure of any kind.

“The Abia State electricity law will send you to jail when caught, so if you have been doing this, you better turn a new leaf now.”
