In a bold move to tackle the menace of cultism, the management of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State has suspended a former aide to the governor over allegations of cultism. The decision, which was made public on 22nd March 2025, has sent shockwaves throughout the university community and beyond.
According to sources, the suspended aide, Felix Okemini, faced accusations of membership in a secret cult within the university. These accusations were presented by a group of students. The allegations were made by a group of students. They claimed that Okemini was involved in various cult-related activities. These activities included initiation of new members and planning of violent attacks on rival cult groups.
Following the allegations, the university management set up a panel to investigate the claims. The panel consisted of senior lecturers and administrative staff. They conducted a thorough investigation. The panel gathered evidence and testimonies from students and staff members.
After completing its investigation, the panel found Okemini guilty of the allegations and recommended his suspension. The university management, acting on the recommendation, suspended Okemini indefinitely, pending further investigation and possible disciplinary action.
The management of Ebonyi Federal University has reiterated its commitment to stamping out cultism. They are also determined to eliminate other forms of violence within the university. In a statement, the university’s vice-chancellor, condemned the activities of cult groups, describing them as “a menace to the academic community”.
