There will not be godfatherism and we have no anointed aspirant – Abure

In preparation for the governorship election in Anambra State, which will take place in November, Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, has given Dr. George Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, his word that he will ensure that all candidates for the party’s ticket have an equal opportunity to compete.

Even though the national chairman of the Labour Party had pledged that he would not have any personal interest or anointed candidate in the primary election that would take place on April 5th, this occurred.

Abure made the promise on Friday when Moghalu sent over his nomination and declaration of interest form to the party secretariat in Abuja.

Abure said, “I want you to take it to the bank that it is the people of Anambra and more precisely, Labour Party members that will determine who flies the party ticket.

“I want to appeal to you to go back to Anambra to do the needful by endearing yourself to the people, especially members of the party responsible for electing the candidate.

“I want to say without any equivocation that there will not be godfatherism and we have no anointed aspirant, and the process will not be skewed towards an aspirant, and I assure you again that the process will be free, fair and credible.

“When we find men of goodwill, we open our arms to receive them. Little wonder we open all our arms to receive you when you come to join the Labour Party. We believe, looking at your trajectory, that you are one of those credible individuals we feel, if given the ticket, will do good to the people of Anambra.”

Moghalu thanked Abure, stating, “Mr Chairman, I assure you that I will not let you down. I am going into this race, the governorship of our State, with the determination to win the election, and we shall win by the grace of God.

“I acknowledge with all sincerity that power belongs to God, and He gives it to whom He pleases. What we have done is to make ourselves available and for God to make the decision.

“Allowing me to fly the flag of our party provides us with the opportunity to have a State we can call our own.”
