Yesterday, March 20, 2025, marked a pivotal moment in the struggle for the re-opening of the National Theatre Complex, as the National Vice President Southwest Rattawu, Comrade Dare Durosimi, joined forces with members of Rattawu, National Theatre, and National Troupe of Nigeria to stage a peaceful protest.
The protest was a clear call to action, demanding that the Federal Government of Nigeria take immediate steps to re-open the renovated National Theatre, which has been closed for five long years, leaving workers to toil under the tree without a decent work environment.

For five long years, these workers have been forced to work under the tree, without any communication from the authorities on when the National Theatre will be re-opened. This is unacceptable! The workers have been patient, but their patience has worn thin. It’s time for the Federal Government of Nigeria to take action and re-open the National Theatre Complex.
The demand is clear: the Federal Government must re-open the National Theatre Complex and allow workers to return to their offices. This is not just a matter of convenience; it’s a matter of dignity and respect for the workers who have dedicated their lives to promoting arts and culture in Nigeria.
The National Theatre Complex is not just a building; it’s a symbol of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. It’s a place where artists, musicians, and performers come together to showcase their talents and promote Nigerian culture. By keeping the National Theatre Complex closed, the government is not only denying workers their right to a decent work environment, but also depriving Nigerians of a vital cultural institution.

Comrades, we must stand in solidarity with the workers of the National Theatre Complex and demand that the government takes immediate action to re-open the complex. We must also recognize the broader implications of this struggle. It’s not just about the National Theatre Complex; it’s about the rights and dignity of workers all over Nigeria.
As we move forward in this struggle, let us remember the words of the great Nigerian poet, Wole Soyinka: “The man dies in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny.” Let us not keep silent! Let us raise our voices and demand justice for the workers of the National Theatre Complex!
*The Demands are Clear:*
Re-opening the National Theatre Complex immediately
Allowing workers to return to their offices
Recognizing the rights and dignity of workers
Promoting Nigerian culture and arts
The Struggle Continues! Victoria Acerta!
