Edo State is set to uncover a new wave of athletic talent at the upcoming Edo State Sports Festival, according to Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission. Speaking during a meeting with Barr. Lucky Eseigbe, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Enabulele outlined the event’s role as a critical preparation platform for young athletes ahead of the National Sports Festival in Ogun State.
The Edo State Sports Festival, scheduled for April 21 to May 1, 2025, is designed to identify and nurture emerging talents who will represent Edo at the national event in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16 to 30, 2025. Enabulele emphasized that the festival aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s sports development agenda, aimed at solidifying Edo’s reputation as a national sports powerhouse.
“This event is essential to maintaining our position as a leader in Nigerian sports,” Enabulele said, expressing confidence that the festival would not only showcase high-quality competition but also unearth untapped potential to strengthen Edo’s contingent for the Ogun games. He highlighted the state’s commitment to delivering a memorable festival that will set the stage for success on the national level.
Enabulele called for widespread participation from all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Edo State, urging Barr. Eseigbe to rally support from acting LGA chairmen to ensure athletes receive robust backing. In response, Commissioner Eseigbe pledged his full support, promising to mobilize stakeholders across the LGAs to guarantee the event’s success.
