
The MoC Athletics Academy has made a impressive debut at the MTN CHAMPS, with its athletes securing multiple medals and setting new personal bests in various events. The academy’s athletes, who were competing in the senior, junior, and youth categories, demonstrated remarkable skill and determination, showcasing the depth of talent being developed at the Lagos-based institution.
One of the standout performers for MoC Athletics Academy was Jane Onyeneho, who won silver in the senior women’s 200m event with a time of 24.58s. Onyeneho had earlier qualified for the final with a time of 24.47s in the heats.
Showers Ushie also impressed, competing in both the senior men’s 100m and 200m events. Ushie advanced to the 200m semifinals and anchored the senior men’s 4x100m relay team to a silver medal with a time of 41.63s.
In the junior category, Ezekiel Asuquo showed remarkable improvement in the men’s 400m, finishing fourth in a competitive final with a lifetime best of 47.46s. Asuquo also contributed to both junior and senior men’s 4x100m relay teams, helping secure silver and bronze medals respectively.
Stephen Adejumo set personal bests in both the junior men’s 200m and 400m events. He posted 49.84s in the 400m heats before breaking the 49-second barrier for the first time in his career with a time of 48.99s to finish sixth in the final.
Other notable performances from MoC Athletics Academy athletes included Toheebat Jimoh, who recorded a new personal best of 25.47s in the 200m heats and 57.32s in her competitive 400m debut. Alvin Onyeama broke the 11-second barrier twice in the junior boys’ 100m, clocking 10.97s in the heats and 10.91s in the semifinals before finishing fourth in the final.
The MoC Athletics Academy’s relay squads also contributed significantly to their medal tally, securing five medals across different categories. The senior men’s 4x100m team won silver with 41.63s, while the junior men’s 4x100m team claimed bronze with 42.91s. The junior women’s 4x100m quartet added another silver medal with 48.29s, while the mixed 4x400m relay team secured bronze with a time of 3:36.01.
