It is shocking that Mr. President sacked the governor and left his minister, who is the principal actor

President Bola Tinubu’s decision to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and keep Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, who is accused of adding fuel to the fire of the state’s political crisis, has shocked the Rivers State Government.

The statement issued by the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, characterized the move as unfair and noted that Governor Fubara has maintained her commitment to constitutional order, peace, and good governance despite the political turmoil in the state.

According to Johnson, Fubara has made it his mission to safeguard lives and property and advance Rivers State since taking office.

Regardless of the political climate, the governor continued to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities and prioritize the people’s interests before his own.

The Rivers State Government sincerely adhered to the parameters agreed upon, including the reinstatement of commissioners who had resigned earlier, after President Tinubu’s involvement to mediate the peace.

It is worth noting that the government promptly followed the Supreme Court’s verdict after receiving the certified true copy of the judgment, showcasing their dedication to following the law and democratic processes.

The commissioner, however, expressed disappointment that lawmakers loyal to Wike—a former governor of the state—have persisted in preventing the restoration of calm and order despite their attempts. Even though Fubara has been gone, Wike—who he characterized as the major player in the crisis—remains in office, which surprises him.

“It is shocking that Mr. President sacked the governor and left his minister, who is the principal actor.”

The commissioner reassured the residents of Rivers State by stressing that good governance is possible even in the face of political obstacles.

“The Government are still working on development projects, salaries have been paid, and the state remains safe.” The administration has reiterated its resolve to engage with all pertinent institutions to maintain democracy and guarantee the continued prosperity of Rivers State, while also urging the people of Rivers to maintain calm and compliance with the law.

“We have always been a resilient people, and we will face this situation with wisdom, patience, and unwavering faith in the democratic process,” the Commissioner added.
