Japan’s Qualifying Chances
Japan can become the first team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup if they beat Bahrain at home in Saitama on Thursday. With a nine-point lead over Australia in Group C, Japan are well-placed to secure their spot in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

South Korea’s Chances
South Korea, led by captain Son Heung-min, are also on track to qualify, needing home wins over Oman and Jordan to seal their spot. Despite struggling for form and fitness with Tottenham, Son remains South Korea’s talisman, with 51 goals in 131 appearances.

Indonesia’s Dutch Connection
Indonesia, meanwhile, have recruited a dozen players born in the Netherlands and appointed Patrick Kluivert as coach, with Jordi Cruyff as technical adviser. They face Australia in Sydney on Thursday.

Qualifying Format
The top two teams in each of the three Asian qualifying groups will secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup. The teams that finish third and fourth will enter a further round of qualifying.
