The Lagos State Government has stated that the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS route) would be temporarily closed for emergency repairs beginning on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and continuing until Monday, May 26, 2025.

This closure will take place for a period of two months. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the State Commissioner for Transportation, released a statement on Sunday, March 16, explaining the closure.

He added that the section of the road that runs from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to Independence through Bonny Camp Bridge was undergoing renovations at the time.

Also, drivers will not be allowed to use the inbound service lane on the Independence Bridge that crosses the Bonny Camp Underpass.

But motorists will still be able to use the service lane that runs from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe. From Ahmadu Bello Way, drivers going to Victoria Island should take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound to Akin Adesola Street, go to Falomo Roundabout, and finally, take Obafemi Awolowo Road to Ring Road.

Inbound traffic on Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue should be directed via Akin Adesola Street, Alfred Rewane Road, Osborne Road, and finally Ring Road if they are aiming to reach the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

Drivers going to CMS and Inner Marina will be rerouted from Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue to Akin Adesola Street, which will connect to J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road, Obafemi Awolowo Road, and Falomo Roundabout.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will manage traffic flow along the impacted roads throughout the repair periods, the commissioner reassured Lagos residents.
