The increasing use of mobile phones by students during school hours has become a serious distraction to their studies.

The administrators and teachers of secondary schools in the state of Anambra have been given the authority to seize cell phones that students bring to school with them. In order to improve academic performance and reduce distractions, this is being done.

The mandate was delivered by Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission in Anambra State, during her address during the commemoration of Anambra Schools’ Cultural Day, which took place on Friday in Awka.

According to Nkechi, it is essential for learning settings to be characterized by a high level of discipline and concentration.

Nkechi said, “The increasing use of mobile phones by students during school hours has become a serious distraction to their studies.

“I am authorising principals and teachers to seize phones from students who come to school with them, so that we can ensure that students concentrate on their academic work without the interference of phones.

“Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s administration is making significant investments in education to promote academic excellence and instil discipline among students.”

At the cultural event, Ikediugwu advocated for the preservation of Igbo culture by educating the younger generation on Igbo values and norms.

Her emphasis was on the beauty and distinctiveness of Igbo traditions, which she characterized as valuable identities that should be preserved.

“Igbo culture extends beyond clothing and dancing, as the Igbos are also known for their honesty, truthfulness, hard work, respect for elders and many other admirable qualities.”
