
The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, has announced that students from various secondary schools in the state are eager to participate in the 2025 Governor’s Cup. The competition, tagged “Catch Them Young,” aims to provide a platform for young athletes in the state and enhance young talents.
Iyamu made the disclosure during a meeting with the state Sports Commission chairman, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, and the sponsor of the event, Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited. He expressed appreciation for the sponsor’s interest in supporting the competition as part of their community social responsibility.
“We appreciate Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited for their interest in sponsoring this competition as part of their community social responsibility,” Iyamu said. “We are grateful for your commitment to sports development. I can assure the sponsor and the sports council that the students are ready to participate in the event and showcase their talents.”
Enabulele highlighted the significance of organizing a memorable competition, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Edo State’s position as a sports powerhouse in the country. “It is essential to ensure that this event helps maintain our position as a sports powerhouse in the country,” he said.
“With the 2025 Governor’s Cup, we are confident that many promising talents will be identified and nurtured to elevate sports in Edo,” Enabulele added. “Senator Monday Okpebholo is deeply committed to sports development, and these untapped talents will play a significant role in our state’s future success.”
The 2025 Governor’s Cup is open to public and selected private schools, featuring Under-16 students from JSS 1, JSS 2, SS1, and SS2. Schools’ game masters will oversee the initial rounds at the school level.
