Senator Godswill Akpabio, the president of the Senate, has urged Nigerians to respect the sacrifices made by the country’s armed forces by promoting peace, togetherness, and nation-building.
Speaking Wednesday in Abuja at the National Christian Center’s interdenominational church service honouring the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Akpabio was accompanied by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu.
The Senate President honoured the valiant men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces, both past and present, while speaking to a group of civilians, religious leaders, and national leaders.
He considered how his late father’s World War II duty influenced his principles of devotion, solidarity, and dedication to Nigeria’s advancement.
He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to putting social programs and policies into place that deal with the difficulties these families face.
The president of the Senate emphasised Nigeria’s variety as a strength and urged people to put aside differences and cooperate in order to address the country’s urgent issues, such as economic hardship, climate change, and insecurity.
“Nigeria is a tapestry woven with over 500 languages, diverse traditions, and various faiths. Our strength lies in our unity despite our diversity,” he said. “We can build a Nigeria that will never surrender to insecurity, avarice, tribalism, and corruption.”
He called on religious organisations to lead the charge in promoting messages of togetherness, love, and tolerance.
Drawing inspiration from the tenacity of historical heroes, Akpabio also urged swift action on national concerns in order to improve Nigeria for coming generations.
“The blood of our heroes is the seed of our unity and progress,” he said. “Let us not only dream of a better Nigeria but work tirelessly to make it a reality.”
The ceremony was attended by members of the Armed Forces, dignitaries, and the families of dead servicemen.
It was a sombre time for introspection, solidarity, and a renewed dedication to the glory of the country.
As Nigeria enters 2025, Akpabio urged all Nigerians to face the year with optimism, resolve, and a common goal of a more powerful and cohesive Nigeria.
“May the fallen heroes‘ memories remind us of our responsibility. May their courage strengthen our resolve. And may we keep striving for a better, stronger, and united Nigeria,” he said
