Farmer killed by kidnappers after paying N5.4m ransom, residents of the Benue community evacuate.

Terzungwe Shaku, a well-known Benue farmer and businessman, was kidnapped shortly after his family demanded a N5.4 million ransom to free him.Shaku was kidnapped in Akor village, Nzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area, just before the new year, and held captive for more than two weeks.

According to locals, the family negotiated a price of N5.4 million, which they decided to pay the kidnappers after they first sought N20 million.

Residents of Akor and the neighboring villages in Guma LGA’s Nzorov Council Ward have reportedly started to leave the area out of concern for additional attacks.

The SA local further revealed that the attackers allegedly shot Shaku just after his family had left the drop-off location, emphasizing that they had hurried back to discover his lifeless body as soon as they heard gunshots.

Benue State Police Command spokesman SP Catherine Anene stated that she was not yet aware of any information on the incident.
