Hon. Dr. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, predicts that there would be less worker strikes or industrial actions in 2025.
She added that the Federal Government is actively tackling the country’s poor working circumstances, with plans to reform minimum wage rates once every three years.
The minister, who is from Abia State, spoke with journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, after meeting with leaders from the State Traditional Rulers Council, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) affiliate unions, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
During the sessions, she offered President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s yuletide and New Year greetings.
The traditional rulers prayed for the success of the Federal Government led by President Tinubu and Minister Onyejeocha, hailing both as patriotic Nigerians dedicated to the country’s good, peace, progress, and development.
Noting that issues concerning the minimum wage have resulted in strike actions that have disrupted government activities and reduced productivity, Minister Onyejeocha, who served four consecutive terms as a lawmaker in the House of Representatives, stated that the Federal Government will now review wages to improve the welfare of Nigerian workers.
