Olubunmi’s body was found in a state of decomposition, three days after her death

Nigerian TikTok Staff– The federal government has demanded a full inquiry into the unsolved murder of Ladi Olubunmi, a Nigerian moderator of TikTok content, in Kenya.

The death of Olubunmi has raised worries about the treatment of Nigerians working overseas; on Thursday, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, urged Kenyan authorities to investigate the circumstances of her death.

IREPORT247NEW reported that mystery surrounded the discovery of Ladi Anzaki Olubunmi, a Nigerian woman working as a TikTok content moderator in Kenya. The circumstances surrounding her death are unknown.

In Nairobi, on Friday, March 7, 2025, Olubunmi’s body was found inside her flat; she had been working for Teleperformance, a company contracted to filter material on TikTok. Only three days after her passing, her body was found in a state of decomposition.

On Tuesday, March 11, content moderators in Kenya staged a vigil in honour of Olubunmi. Larry Madowo, a journalist with CNN, reports that her coworkers have asserted that she has rejected requests for leave on multiple occasions.

Since she had been in Kenya, she had not returned home, although she was entitled to one return ticket home as part of her annual entitlement.

According to her coworkers, she stated that she was exhausted and had a tremendous urge to go back to Nigeria, a trip that she had been unable to do for the past two years.

According to a statement released by the Media and Public Relations Unit of NiDCOM, Dabiri-Erewa voiced her concern about the situation and emphasized the importance of enacting stricter labor regulations to safeguard Nigerians employed abroad.

The chairman of the Nigerian Committee on International Affairs (NiDCOM) conveyed his sympathies to Olubunmi’s loved ones and coworkers and emphasized the importance of mental health services and supervision for Nigerians engaged in foreign employment.

“Proper labour mobility laws in Nigeria would safeguard the rights and well-being of Nigerians employed abroad, ensuring proper documentation, monitoring, and support systems.

“We urge a thorough investigation by Kenyan authorities to uncover the circumstances surrounding Olubunmi’s untimely passing.”
