The recent Lakurawa attacks in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State have left a trail of destruction and displacement in their wake.

In response to the crisis, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has assured victims of the attacks that his administration will take swift action to resettle them in their communities.

The Lakurawa attacks, which occurred on Saturday, resulted in the displacement of residents from Birnin Debe, Dan Marke, and Tambo. Armed assailants killed 11 people and set one of the villages ablaze, leaving many without homes or livelihoods.

Governor Idris made the pledge during a condolence visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kangiwa, Kebbi State. The governor commended security agencies for their efforts in containing the crisis and raised concerns that the attacks frequently originated from neighboring Sokoto State and Niger Republic.

The Kebbi State Government has taken steps to support the displaced persons, including the provision of 100 additional bags each of rice and millet, along with a cow to be slaughtered for their sustenance every four to five days.

Governor Idris reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of the victims to their communities and pledged to take all necessary measures to restore normalcy in the affected areas.

To address the security challenges posed by the Lakurawa attacks, the Kebbi State Government has requested the deployment of soldiers to the area. The government has also established a committee to investigate the attacks and provide recommendations for preventing future incidents.

The humanitarian response to the crisis has been led by the Kebbi State Government, with support from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders. The response has included the provision of food, shelter, and medical care to the displaced persons.

While the immediate response to the crisis has been focused on providing humanitarian assistance, the Kebbi State Government is also working on long-term solutions to address the root causes of the conflict. This includes initiatives to promote economic development, improve access to education and healthcare, and enhance security in the affected areas.

The Lakurawa attacks have had a devastating impact on the communities affected, leaving many without homes or livelihoods. However, the swift response of the Kebbi State Government, led by Governor Idris, has helped to alleviate the suffering of the displaced persons. As the government continues to work on long-term solutions to address the root causes of the conflict, it is essential that all stakeholders remain committed to supporting the affected communities.
