Regional Security Challenges Require Collective Action- Defence Minister

The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has stressed the importance of collective efforts in addressing regional security challenges in West Africa.

Speaking at the 43rd Ordinary Meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff in Abuja, Minister of State for Defence Matawalle noted that Nigeria remains committed to the ideals of ECOWAS and regional security.

Matawalle highlighted the various security challenges facing the region, including terrorism, insurgency, maritime insecurity, and transnational crime. He emphasized the need for cooperation and collective action to address these challenges, stating that no single nation can confront regional security challenges alone.

The Minister expressed Nigeria’s appreciation for the dedication of ECOWAS military chiefs to the shared vision of peace, unity, and regional development. He urged the defence chiefs to reaffirm their commitment to fostering peace, stability, security, and development across the region.

Matawalle reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening military collaboration, intelligence sharing, and capacity building to safeguard the nation and its people. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts in addressing regional security challenges, stating that Nigeria is committed to working with other ECOWAS member states to achieve peace and stability in the region.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) plays a crucial role in promoting regional security and cooperation.
