Bayern Munich secured a comfortable 2-0 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, advancing to the Champions League quarter-finals with a 5-0 aggregate victory. Harry Kane scored a goal and set up another, as Bayern Munich dominated their German rivals.
Kane’s goal in the 52nd minute, tapping in a Joshua Kimmich cross, killed off any lingering hopes Leverkusen had of staging a comeback. The England captain then set up Alphonso Davies to score Bayern’s second goal in the 71st minute, slamming a clever chip low and hard to double Bayern’s lead.
“We’re happy to be in the quarter-finals, and we’re looking forward to the next round,” Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said. “We played well, and we deserved the win.”
Leverkusen, missing pivotal midfielder Florian Wirtz, showed spirit but couldn’t overcome the deficit from the first leg. Xabi Alonso’s side will now focus on the German Cup, where they are through to the final four.
“We knew it would be tough, but we had to try,” Alonso said. “We’re disappointed, but we have to look forward to the next games.”
Bayern’s victory sets up a potential quarter-final clash with other top European teams, as they continue their quest for Champions League glory.
