Sevilla coach García Pimienta has praised Nigerian winger Chidera Ejuke for his match-winning performance against Real Sociedad on Sunday. Ejuke scored the only goal in the 1-0 victory, his second La Liga goal, and first start since recovering from an injury in January. The Nigerian’s impressive display has earned him a spot in Nigeria’s 39-man provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Pimienta applauded Ejuke’s journey back to form, saying, “When he got injured, he was in great form. He was practically out for three months, with what that means to then get back into shape.” The Sevilla coach also noted Ejuke’s defensive contributions, stating, “He had some very good minutes also on a defensive level for the team. We are very happy for him too.”
Ejuke’s performance against Real Sociedad was a testament to his hard work and determination. The Nigerian winger had been out for three months due to injury, but he has now made a successful return to the pitch. His goal against Real Sociedad was a wonderful curler that secured Sevilla’s ninth win of the season.
Sevilla’s victory over Real Sociedad has moved them to the 10th position in the Spanish topflight with 36 points after 27 games. The team will host Athletic Bilbao in their next game on Sunday, before Ejuke potentially joins the Nigerian national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
