The crisis rocking the Rivers State government has taken a new turn, as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has vowed to fight on amidst impeachment threats from loyalists of former Governor Nyesom Wike.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has also weighed in on the matter, warning Wike’s men to desist from their alleged plans to destabilize the state government.

The crisis in Rivers State began shortly after Fubara’s inauguration as governor, with Wike’s loyalists accusing him of not being loyal to the former governor. The situation escalated when Fubara dissolved the state executive council, a move that was seen as a bold statement of his intention to assert his authority.

Wike’s loyalists, who are predominantly members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have been threatening to impeach Fubara over allegations of gross misconduct. The governor has, however, refused to back down, vowing to fight on and defend his administration against any attempts to destabilize it.

The PDP has warned Wike’s men to desist from their alleged plans to impeach Fubara, stating that such actions would be counterproductive and detrimental to the party’s interests. The party’s national leadership has also intervened in the crisis, calling for calm and urging all parties to resolve their differences amicably.

Fubara has responded to the impeachment threats, stating that he would not be intimidated or distracted by the antics of Wike’s loyalists. The governor has also called on the people of Rivers State to remain calm and focused, assuring them that his administration would continue to work tirelessly to deliver on its campaign promises.

As the crisis in Rivers State continues to unfold, it is clear that a resolution would require a concerted effort from all parties involved. The PDP’s national leadership must take a firm stance on the matter, ensuring that the party’s interests are protected and that the crisis is resolved in a peaceful and amicable manner.

The people of Rivers State must also remain vigilant, ensuring that their interests are protected and that the state government is held accountable for its actions. Ultimately, the crisis in Rivers State presents an opportunity for the state’s political leaders to come together and work towards a common goal – the development and prosperity of the state.
