Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is optimistic about giving teenager Tyrique George more first-team opportunity after his good performance in the Blues’ 5-0 FA Cup win against Morecambe on Saturday evening.
The highly-rated youth forward, who has yet to appear in the Premier League this season, put up a remarkable performance at Stamford Bridge, playing the entire 90 minutes.
George was the primary creator in the third round FA Cup tie, providing a game-high five important passes and two assists. George set up Tosin Adarabioyo’s second goal and João Félix’s strike, showcasing his potential as a future Blues star.
In his post-match press conference, Maresca praised George’s performance and stressed his potential for a larger part in the first squad. “Tyrique was good. He’s going well for us.
He has already played a few games for us in the Conference League. He is the same age as Josh Acheampong, so he is still very young, but hopefully we can give them more opportunities and they can become an essential part of this team,” Maresca told the club’s media.
George has been formally promoted to Chelsea’s first team, although he also plays for the development squad to keep and enhance his match fitness.
In just eight Premier League 2 outings, the 18-year-old has one goal and five assists, demonstrating his attacking danger and playmaking ability.
With his consistent achievements at both the juvenile and senior levels, George appears to be on his way to becoming a regular for Chelsea.
