A USA-based Nigerian investor, Mrs. Onyinye Urum Ukaegbu Ibe, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over alleged threats by locals in Abiriba, Abia State, to burn down her multi-million piggery and cassava farm.

The threats follow the death of a worker on the farm, Joseph Urum, who died after being hospitalized for a stomach ache.

The investor claims that rumors are circulating that fellow workers murdered Joseph, which she dismisses as “untenable fabrication” by those seeking to destroy her investment. She’s calling for a thorough investigation into Joseph’s death and police reinforcement to protect her farm from arsonists.

Mrs. Ibe established the farm to support her community and provide employment opportunities. She’s shocked by allegations that she attempted to harvest Joseph’s kidney for her son in the USA, which she denies.

The paramount traditional ruler of Abiriba, HRM Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu, confirmed the incident and said the police are investigating. The palace has taken measures to safeguard the farm from mob attacks.

The situation highlights the challenges faced by investors in Nigeria, particularly when it comes to securing their businesses and protecting their investments. The swift response of the police and the palace is crucial in preventing further violence and ensuring that justice is served.
