England’s leading wicket-taker, who will turn 43 in July, has not played since retiring from international action last July.

He has since worked as a bowling consultant for England, although he still wants to play.

Anderson explored a move to franchise cricket after going unsold in the Indian Premier League auction in November, but he plans to stay with the county he initially represented professionally in 2001.

While no agreement has been reached for Anderson to continue as England coach next summer, it is understood that Ben Stokes’ team is eager for him to return.

England’s next Test, against Zimbabwe, begins on May 22nd, followed by a highly anticipated five-Test series against India on June 20th.

Lancashire, who was demoted from Division One last season, has six County Championship games before the Zimbabwe Test.

Anderson played once for Lancashire last season before leaving for Lord’s, taking 7-35 in the first innings against Nottinghamshire.

Anderson retired when England decided to focus on the future with their bowling attack, and he finished his international career with 704 Test wickets, the most by a fast bowler.

His first-class tally stands at 1,126, with 376 for Lancashire in 95 matches since his debut in 2002. Anderson hasn’t played white-ball cricket since 2019, and his last Twenty20 match was in 2014.

Lancashire’s T20 Blast season starts on May 29.
