With the 2027 presidential election 715 days away, Nigeria’s political landscape is already heating up. President Bola Tinubu is seeking re-election, but faces a challenge in the North, where some leaders are divided on supporting him.

Tinubu’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, have expressed support for the President’s re-election bid. However, other Northern leaders have differing opinions.

Meanwhile, Tinubu is reportedly courting leaders from the South East and South-South regions to bolster his chances in 2027. To win re-election, he needs to secure a majority of votes and at least 25% of votes in two-thirds of Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In the 2023 election, Tinubu lost in Lagos, Osun, and the FCT, and failed to secure 25% of votes in Abuja. He also struggled in the South East, where he secured only 5.8% of valid votes.
