Abbas Sani Abbas, Kano State recently sacked Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, has formally quit the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to join the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr. Abbas and five other commissioners were relieved of their responsibilities last month by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in what was termed as a cabinet shakeup to strengthen the administration.

His defection to the APC was announced during a visit to top APC leaders in Kano, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin.

In a Facebook post, Senator Jibrin announced Mr. Abbas’ defection, says: “I welcomed Hon. Abbas Sani Abbas to our wonderful party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), a minute ago. “He was the Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State until last month. During a visit to Kano, he declared his departure from the NNPP and joining the APC.

The Deputy Senate President complimented Mr. Abbas for his commitment to grassroots mobilization and expressed confidence in his contributions to the APC. “Our State party Chairman, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ċan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other leaders enthusiastically hugged Hon. Abbas, being a dedicated grassroots mobilizer for our party.

We assured him of our support as we collaborate to create a better future for the people of Kano State and, indeed, all Nigerians,” Mr. Jibrin said.
