Lowa Defeated Michigan State 74-61

Lucy Olsen led all players with 21 points and nine assists to lead 11th-seeded Iowa to a 74-61 upset of No. 24 Michigan State in the final second-round game of the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis on Thursday.

Hannah Stuelke spent much of the second half in foul trouble, but she managed 12 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes as Iowa (22-9) moved on to face third-seeded Ohio State (24-5) in Friday’s last quarterfinal.

Taylor McCabe added 12 points for the Hawkeyes, who led 32-25 at halftime before falling behind 46-41 with four minutes left in the third quarter. With Stuelke sitting with four fouls, freshman Ava Heiden entered and scored six of her career-high 11 points to help Iowa regain a 54-48 lead entering the fourth.

Second-team all-league forward Julia Ayrault led sixth-seeded Michigan State (21-9) with 17 points. Fellow second-teamer Grace VanSlooten added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Ines Sotelo posted 11 points off the bench. Iowa forced the Spartans into 24 turnovers, one shy of their season-worst total.
