3,365 Seized Cannabis Parcels Handed Over to NDLEA by Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has handed over 3,365 seized cannabis parcels, weighing 3,103.3kg, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The parcels were seized along with 75 sacks of cannabis and 88 cartons of codeine cough syrup.

The Customs Area Controller, Mohammed Shuaibu, reiterated the command’s commitment to cracking down on illegal activities that pose a threat to the nation’s economy and security. He noted that the seizure was part of the command’s efforts to combat the distribution of illegal drugs, which pose significant threats to the health and safety of citizens.

Other seized items included:

– *2,145 bags of foreign rice*
– *612 bales of second-hand clothing*
– *843 used tyres*
– *6,625 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS)*

The Duty Paid Value of the entire seizures amounts to N279,595,038.00. The command also generated a total of N9,694,072 as revenue from baggage assessment and auction sales of the PMS.

The Controller of Ogun I Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, Idiroko, Mohammed Shuaibu, handed over the seized items to the NDLEA State Commander, Tijani Rabe, represented by the Deputy State Commander, Operations and Training, Alex Nnyigide. Shuaibu praised the synergy between the two security agencies and urged them to continue working together to combat illegal activities.

The NDLEA State Commander, Tijani Rabe, lauded the Customs officers for their efforts in seizing the illegal items. He urged them to continue their good work in fighting against drug peddlers in the country.

The handing over of the seized cannabis parcels and other items to the NDLEA is a significant step in the fight against illegal drugs and other criminal activities. The collaboration between the Customs and NDLEA demonstrates the commitment of security agencies to work together to combat crime and protect the nation.
