Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has rejected reports that the Court of Appeal reinstated sacked chairmen and councillors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2022, calling them “fake news”. According to Adeleke, the APC officials remain sacked by the order of the Federal High Court in the state, and he vowed to use the rule of law to remove “the illegal occupants” from council offices.

Adeleke clarified that he wasn’t responsible for the sacking, but rather a Federal High Court removed them in October 2022, during his predecessor Adegboyega Oyetola’s tenure. He accused the APC of planning to “burn down the state” with an “evil agenda” to take over council secretariats based on a Court of Appeal ruling lacking consequential orders or reinstatement provisions.

The APC responded by accusing Adeleke of disregarding the appellate court’s judgment, which reinstated the elected APC council chairmen and councillors on February 10, 2025. The party alleged that Adeleke engaged in abuse of court process and was behind court suits instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) local government officials.

The Osun APC also criticized the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) for supporting the allegedly illegally elected council chairmen and councillors. The party stated that NULGE’s actions were “morally and legally offensive”.
