In the state’s Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State Police Command officers conducted a regular stop-and-search operation along the Akute/Olambe Road and apprehended Abiodun John, a 25-year-old suspected Alora cult leader, in possession of an illegal firearm.

In a Friday message to reporters, Omolola Odutola, the command’s spokesperson, revealed this.

Odutola stated that John was allegedly taken into custody on Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m. after a tip from a member of the public raised suspicions about him and his companions while they were in a Venza vehicle registered to URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.

According to the information, the Ajuwon Division police officers quickly chased after and pulled over the vehicle, she added. Three live rounds and two locally manufactured handguns were found in John’s possession during the car check.

Part of the statement read “The Divisional Police Officer Ajuwon has arrested the leader of the Alora cult and confiscated a firearm found in his possession during a routine search inside the vehicle he was driving at the time of his arrest.

“On January 9, 2025, at about 3:30 pm, Ajuwon police officers were conducting a lawful patrol and performing stop-and-search duties along the Akute/Olambe Road when they received information from the public regarding two men suspected to be inside a Venza car with dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.

“Immediately the information was intercepted, the officers pursued the vehicle, which was eventually stopped in front of the Osaro Mobile Filling Station. One suspect identified as Abiodun John, a 25-year-old male from the Olori area of Akute, was arrested, while another suspect remains at large.

“During the search of the vehicle, two locally-made pistols and three live cartridges were discovered in John’s possession.”

A preliminary investigation had begun, the statement said, and the suspect and the confiscated objects had been brought to the station.

The case will shortly be moved to Eleweran, the state capital of Abeokuta, to be investigated further by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
