Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has presented the staff and instruments of office to Oba Samuel Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwaland in Ibarapa East Local Government Area.

This presentation, made on Thursday at the Executive Chamber in Ibadan, marks a significant step in filling the vacant Eleruwa stool, which had been empty since Oba Adegbola’s deposition by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 2019.

The Eleruwa stool had remained vacant for several years, following Oba Adegbola’s deposition. The Kingmakers for Eruwaland had recommended Oba Adegbola’s reappointment, which was subsequently approved by Governor Makinde.

During the presentation ceremony, Governor Makinde emphasized his administration’s commitment to non-interference in traditional institutions’ affairs. He urged other parties to avoid litigation and instead focus on development. The Governor also highlighted the crucial role traditional rulers play in security and cultural preservation.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Adegbola pledged to work towards reconciling the Eruwa people and collaborating with other traditional rulers for the state’s progress. He expressed his gratitude to Governor Makinde and the Kingmakers for Eruwaland for their support.

The presentation of the staff and instruments of office to Oba Adegbola marks a significant step in promoting peace and stability in Eruwaland. It also underscores the importance of traditional institutions in Oyo State’s development.

This development comes after Governor Makinde’s earlier presentation of the staff and certificate of office to the 46th Alaafin-elect, Prince Akeem Abimbola Owoade, in January 2025. The Governor has demonstrated his commitment to supporting traditional institutions in Oyo State.
