The Kwara State government has taken over the prosecution of AbdulRahman Bello, a cleric accused of murdering his girlfriend, Yetunde Hafsoh Lawal.
Case Details
Bello, who made a shocking confession, pleaded for the release of his co-defendants, claiming they were innocent bystanders. The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) informed the court that Bello had a case to answer.
Dr. Folorunso Ahmad Hussein, counsel to the family of the deceased, urged the court to ensure justice for the murdered girl and her family. Magistrate Sanusi Muhammad adjourned the case to March 20.
Justice for Victims
Dr. Hussein emphasized the importance of ensuring justice for victims of capital offenses. “Anyone convicted by law should face the appropriate punishment,” he said.
He also urged governors to uphold the law by issuing death sentences for those who deserve it. This, he claimed, would provide relief to the public and the families of victims.
Bello’s Confession
As Bello left the court, he admitted to killing and dismembering the deceased. The court advised him to make any further requests when he appears before the High Court.
