Olabode George, former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned the party not to give Atiku Abubakar the 2027 presidential ticket. George believes that Atiku’s emergence as the flag bearer would lead to the party’s downfall in the next presidential poll.

According to George, Atiku and his cohorts have shown disrespect to Southern Nigeria, particularly during the 2023 elections. “Atiku does not have the interest of the South at heart and he may possibly not going to be the president of all, if under his supervision the South West was given nothing and he was even courageous enough to say that something would be conceded to South West after the election, which we rejected,” he said.

George also emphasized that it would be unfair to the South if a Northerner wins the PDP presidential ticket in 2027. “I can bet you that no reasonable southerner would wholeheartedly campaign for a candidate for the North to emerge President of Nigeria in 2027. I will never do that until 2031 after the South must have completed its eight years.”

In addition, George shared his thoughts on Peter Obi’s presidential ambition, stating that Obi can only achieve his goal on the PDP platform, not with the Labour Party. “There is no way the present LP can withstand the strength of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. The only party that has such a taproot, structure and support is the PDP.”

George appealed to Wike to reconsider his rebellion against the party and urged Nigerians to join forces with the PDP to address the country’s economic challenges. He also emphasized the need to address fundamental flaws in the 1999 Constitution and restructure Nigeria to true federalism.
