Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has commended President Bola Tinubu for the significant drop in food prices ahead of the Ramadan and Lent periods this year. Notably, this is the first time in 10 years that food prices haven’t increased during Ramadan.
Omokri attributed this positive shift to the “Tinubu Effect,” highlighting the Office of the National Security Adviser’s effective management of Nigeria’s food security. He praised the NSA’s focus on food security, fuel, and power security, which has led to improved physical security and a better Global Terror Index score.
Some key achievements mentioned by Omokri include:
- Improved Food Security: The ONSA has stopped the diversion of staple goods to neighboring countries during festive seasons and provides physical security for farming communities.
- Reduced Fuel Smuggling: The ONSA facilitated the closure of over 1,800 fuel stations that violated smuggling regulations, resulting in a significant decrease in fuel smuggling.
- Lower Fuel Prices: The combination of reduced fuel smuggling and increased local refining has led to a steady decrease in fuel prices.
Omokri concluded that this intelligent approach to national security is yielding positive results, as evident from the reversal of food price increases during Ramadan.
