In Borno State, suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Nganzai Police Division, killing two policemen of the Borno State Police Command.
ASP Nahum Daso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a statement issued on Thursday that the incident happened on Wednesday at approximately 12:10 a.m.
“At about 12:10 am, unknown gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists attempted to invade Nganzai Police Division. Gallant officers on duty repelled the terrorists after a series of gun battles,” According to the statement.
Daso claimed that two officers were hurt when the terrorists launched hand grenades during the assault.
“Unfortunately, two officers were fatally wounded when the terrorists’ hand grenades fell on a shelter tent behind the division,” Daso stated.
He further mentioned that Yusufu Lawal, the Commissioner of Police for the Borno State Police Command, paid a visit to the station.
Lawal expressed his sympathy to the families of the fallen cops and praised the officers for their courage.
According to the announcement, “Today, January 9, 2025, Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, psc, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Police Command, visited Nganzai Police Division, commended officers for their resilience, and condoled with the families of the two officers who lost their lives.”
He added that during the scene examination, the police found the terrorists’ explosives.
“The EOD-CBRN Base 13, Maiduguri, found two hand grenades during the Commissioner of Police’s scene inspection.
The deceased’s remains have been sent to Maiduguri’s State General Hospital.
“The Commissioner of Police expressed his condolences to the families of the two officers who lost their lives and commended the brave officers who resisted the attack.
However, the police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to making sure everyone in the state is safe and secure.
