Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan stormed the National Assembly on Wednesday amid her supporters’ demands for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s resignation and pro-Akpabio protests.

According to the Kogi Central senator, Akpabio sexually harassed her during a December 2023 visit to his home and when she asked him about her Ajaokuta Steel motion.

She had argued with the Senate President that she was intentionally segregated from other senators.

Cheers broke out from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters when she arrived at the protest site next to the Mopol gate. Her supporters waved placards that contained inscriptions such as “Akpabio must go” and “We stand with Senator Natasha.”

An exhaustive inquiry of her charges was demanded by the demonstrators, who included members of civil society organizations.

During this time, a competing group of individuals who were in favor of Akpabio organized a counter-protest.

They displayed banners that bore phrases such as “We say no to Natasha’s serial blackmailing” and “Akpabio treated Natasha as a daughter and friend.”

The initial wave of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s supporters had been dispersed with tear gas near the National Assembly Arcade, which is located opposite Eagle Square.

Some of the security men who were present were not in uniform. The protesters, who had begun gathering at approximately nine in the morning, were compelled to retreat, but they later reunited at a neighboring area in order to continue their demonstration without interruption.
