UPDATE:Covenant University VC Hails FG’s Approval of 11 New Private Universities

The Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun, Prof. Timothy Anake, has commended the Federal Government for approving the establishment of 11 new private universities. “Approval of more private universities by the Federal Government is a welcome development as it will make more people have access to university education,” Anake said.

Anake advised the proprietors of the universities to ensure adequate funding for quality education. He also appealed to the National Universities Commission to ensure the new universities operate in line with international standards.

The approved universities include:

  • New City University, Ayetoro Ogun
  • University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State
  • Eranova University, Mabushi
  • Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun
  • Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara
  • Southern Atlantic University, Uyo
  • Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara
  • Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun
  • Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City
  • Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos State
  • Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State

This development brings the total number of private universities in Nigeria to 147, with 37 new private universities also receiving provisional licenses from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
