Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has made a passionate appeal to Igbo investors in Lagos to redirect their wealth and investments back to their homeland in the South-East. Speaking at the “Anambra Homeland Consciousness Initiative” event in Lagos, Soludo emphasized the need for Ndigbo to prioritize the development of their region.
He proudly described the Igbo people, saying: “We, Ndigbo, are a blessed and distinguished people with wisdom, uncommon dynamism, and ingenuity. We are like the cactus plant that thrives even in the desert, with the resilience to overcome challenges. Like the cedar tree, we flourish and prosper, generating wealth in every corner of the world.”
Soludo noted that despite their entrepreneurial spirit and wealth, the Igbo people often prioritize investments in other regions over their homeland. He urged them to reevaluate this tendency, saying: “Charity, as they say, begins at home. It has become imperative for us to introspect and reevaluate this tendency in light of the current political and economic realities.”
To achieve this, Soludo advocated for a “Homeland Consciousness” approach, where Igbo investors channel their resources towards building a sustainable and prosperous homeland. He outlined the benefits of this approach, saying: “We need to build business hubs, create boom towns, and stimulate the influx of foreign capital into our homeland.”
As governor, Soludo has already demonstrated his commitment to making Anambra a thriving economic center. He has announced plans to rejig the security apparatus of the state to make it conducive for investment purposes. Soludo called on all Igbo entrepreneurs to take bold steps towards building a sustainable and prosperous homeland, cautioning them to “exercise caution and be proactive in safeguarding our business interests.”
